Selwyn Dementia Garden

The brief was to re-design the Selwyn dementia garden as the client felt the area was not suitable or safe for the residents use. Our design kept the existing pathways and we installed sensory gardens and artificial lawn - to ensure the lawn could be walked on all year round with no muddy feet. An important feature was to create an uncluttered, inviting seating area for residents to enjoy.

The sensory gardens were each themed, 1- sight, 2 - smell and 3 - touch. We used hardy plants that flower to enable picking and sharing amongst residents families and staff. And by adding more colour we ensured residents would be drawn into the garden to enjoy and experience the sense of wellbeing that a dementia garden can provide.

These changes has seen the garden utilised much more by residents and their families.
